UUID Generator
Generate UUIDs in bulk: v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6 and v7, plus nil and max. Uses your browser's secure random generator; nothing is sent anywhere.
Which UUID version should I use?
A UUID (universally unique identifier) is a 128-bit ID that can be created anywhere without a central counter. This generator supports versions 1 to 7, plus the nil and max UUIDs.
For database primary keys, v7 is usually the best choice: it is random but starts with a timestamp, so new rows sort in order. v4 is fully random and the most widely supported. v5 and v3 always give the same UUID for the same name, which is useful for stable IDs. v1 and v6 are timestamp based, and v2 is a rarely used DCE variant.
What is a UUID?+
A UUID (or GUID) is a 128-bit identifier that is practically unique, so it can be created anywhere without coordination.
Which UUID version should I use?+
Use v7 for database keys because it is time-ordered, v4 for general random IDs, and v5 (or v3) when the same name must always give the same UUID.
What is the difference between v1, v6 and v7?+
v1 and v6 use a 100-nanosecond timestamp since 1582 plus a node ID; v6 reorders v1 so it sorts. v7 uses the Unix millisecond timestamp plus random bits and is the simplest time-ordered choice.
Are these UUIDs secure?+
Random bits come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator. Nothing is sent to a server.
